HACK YOURSELF HEALTHY: Reclaim your health to boost your energy, clear your mind and live a long, vibrant life by JULIA BRADBURY

Julia Bradbury / Hack Yourself Healthy

The secrets of personalised medicine and how to make it work for you by one of the UK's favourite TV presenters, Julia Bradbury.

THE EVENT:

Following her own battle with cancer, Julia embarked on a rigorous journey to reclaim her health. Through countless tests and examinations – both physical and emotional – she sought to answer one pivotal question: Can you go from a cancer diagnosis to being healthier and fitter than ever before?

This is why she decided put herself up as a ‘crash test mummy’: to trial lifestyle changes that promise to extend healthspan. In Hack Yourself Healthy Julia embarks on a journey to test, trial, and discover medically-backed ways to improve her healthspan by optimising her wellbeing, which led her to discover a benign cyst “smack bang” in the middle of her brain. Lots of her has been examined and analysed in this journey, from her brainwaves to her breasts: She has been poked, prodded and stuck with needles; she has given a lot of blood and shared her poo for the purposes of science; saliva test enabled specialists to decode her DNA – to work out what diseases she was susceptible to; and even her emotional health and psychological resilience – both surprisingly significant in human healthspan – have been picked apart.

Hack Yourself Healthy draws from all the research, interviews with world-renowned experts and personal experiments that Julia has carried out during the last two years. At this event Julia  will discuss the practical tips and accessible science-based strategies she’s discovered in her journey to optimise every aspect of our health and wellbeing.

TIMINGS:

  • 45min in conversation with chair
  • 15min audience Q&A
  • Followed by book signing

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JULIA BRADBURY is a well-loved television presenter, author, nature advocate, charity campaigner and Sunday Times bestselling author of Walk Yourself Happy. She is best known for turning her lifelong passion for walking into prime-time TV with shows including Britain's Best Walks, Cornwall and Devon Walks with Julia Bradbury and Wainwright's Walks in the Lake District.  She manages to bring the outdoors and nature into people's homes and lives, in a warm engaging tone.  She started her television career as a show business reporter for breakfast television in Los Angeles, and came back to the UK to launch Channel 5.

She was a key member of the presenting team which turned Countryfile into one of the most watched factual programmes on BBC1 with millions tuning in on Sunday nights, and has fronted other flagship shows including Top Gear and Watchdog. In recent years she has also taken on a creative role, co-developing new series, as well as appearing on screen.

Following her breast cancer diagnosis and her recovery from a mastectomy in 2021, she made an award-winning documentary Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer & Me about her experience.  She has supported prostate, ovarian and bowel cancer charities for many years and also campaigns for better diagnosis, research and funding into the disease Endometriosis.

Having discovered that between 30%-40% of cancers are preventable, Julia is now determined to speak up for a more personalised approach to health care, embracing new science and taking a preventative and integrative approach to well-being.  Her passion is the natural world,  and her cancer diagnosis and surgery have motivated her to dedicate her time supporting the benefits of healthy living and the virtues of nature therapy.  She is a devoted mum of three, and credits motherhood with inspiring her on her quest for healthspan.
